One of the key staples in a BBQ lover’s repertoire is ribs, and a good dry rub comes along with that. This pork ribs rub adds incredible flavor whilst honoring the natural taste of the meat.
Pork Ribs Rub
A good pork ribs rub contains salt, sugar, and umami flavours. The salt provides a brining effect, particularly if you apply your rub the night before. Whereas the sugar provides a delicious stickiness when you’re smoking your meat, and the umami (or savoury) flavours provide the BBQ taste we all know and love.
Using a pork ribs rub like this combined with a pellet smoker will take your smoked pork to the next level!

How To Make Pork Ribs Rub
Step 1: Measure Ingredients
Using measuring spoons or weighing scales, measure out the correct amount of each ingredient.
This batch provides the right amount for approximately 2lbs of meat. If you want to store your rub for later use, scale your measurement sizes appropriately.
Step 2: Combine & Mix
Combine all of your ingredients together in a mixing bowl & mix thoroughly until fully combined. During this process, you want to combine so thoroughly that you can’t tell which seasonings have been used (no groupings of any particular seasoning).
Step 3: Use Or Store
Use the beef rub immediately by patting your meat carefully yet generously. Remember that rub adds incredible flavor to your meat, so be as liberal as you like with the seasoning.
Although this rub recipe works great on pork ribs, we also recommend trying it on Smoked Beef Short Ribs too for something different.
Alternatively, if you want to keep all or part of your rub for later use, use a funnel to pour your seasoning into an airtight container. If you have a silica anti-moisture pack, place this inside the container to keep the rub fresher for longer. Store your container in a cool, dry place, and your rub can last for months.

We recommend scaling up the recipe to create a larger batch of rub. You can store your rub in an airtight container and use it whenever you need it for up to six months.
How Can I Make My Pork Ribs Rub Smokier?
This pork rib rub recipe uses smoked paprika to give it a smoky flavour. But you can add other ingredients, like smoked chipotle flakes, to make it even smokier if you wish. Remember that if you’re smoking your ribs, you’ll naturally have a smoky flavour from the smoker too.
