Reduce the heat to low and simmer for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has thickened and reduced by about one-third.
If you want a thicker sauce, you can add cornstarch. In a small bowl, whisk together 1 tablespoon of cornstarch and 1 tablespoon of water until smooth.
Slowly pour the cornstarch mixture into the saucepan, whisking constantly until the sauce has thickened to your desired consistency.
Remove from heat and let the sauce cool to room temperature.
Once cooled, transfer the sauce to a glass jar or airtight container and store it in the refrigerator until ready to use.
