How To Make Smoked Potato Bombs

Step 1 – Prepare Potatoes

Take your potatoes, wash them with lukewarm water. This will remove any dust particles from the potato, now peel them nicely. Once this is done make a hole in the potatoes for filling, you can use an apple corer to make a hole in the potato.

Make a hole using an apple corer in the centre of the potato and save the centre part which you just removed. It will help you later and work as a plug to seal the ends of the potatoes.

Step 2 – Fill Potatoes

Now comes the fun part, stuffing the spuds with your favourite filling. There are many options for fillings. For example, you can use different cheeses like cheddar cheese or blue cheese. You can try different meats as well, like corned beef, leftover roast, and ham, etc. This totally depends on what your taste buds are looking for.

Stuff the potatoes with the filling of your choice and then seal it with the piece that you saved earlier. Make sure you plug both ends of the potatoes with this core piece.

Step 3 – Wrap Potatoes

Once everything is done related to filling it is time to wrap the potatoes with sticky uncooked bacon. Bacon ads tightness as it cooks. Use a minimum of 2 slices of bacon to wrap a potato.

Bacon will give it an extra hit of flavour and a crispy outer layer. If you want your smoked potatoes bomb to be like one of those BBQ pit boys, you can season them with BBQ seasoning as well.

Add some olive oil to the bacon-wrapped potatoes and rub them well with the oil. As they are all covered up in oil, take aluminum foil and place the bacon-wrapped potatoes and cover them tightly. Make sure the potatoes are packed tightly in the foil.

Step 4 – Smoke The Bombs

Heat up the smoker and set the temperature to 375 degrees F. Make sure to pre-heat the smoker before cooking. If you don’t have a smoker, you can use a preheated oven as well, the procedure and the guidelines will remain the same, but you will not be able to get the feel and flavor of the smoke in an oven.

Place the potato bombs on the grill and then put them in the smoker to cook for about an hour or until they are tender. As they are being smoked keep in mind to flip them in halfway for even cooking. Keep a close watch on the timer and check the bombs after an hour.

To check if the smoked potato bombs are ready, use a toothpick and insert it in the potato bomb if it is tender enough, then remove it from the smoker or oven, and if they are not ready yet, cook them for a couple of minutes more.

Step 5 – Serve!

Once they are done remove them from the smoker and place them on a plate, unwrap the foil and slice them in half. Serve them with some finely chopped spring onions or chives. Mix them up with some sour cream and enjoy.
